Undertake initial rescue
Personnel undertaking a task in a workplace may witness an incident or difficulty involving a co-worker. In these few initial critical minutes before other help arrives, the actions of the person may have a significant effect on the well-being of their co-worker. However, at no time should the person take any action that is likely to cause them to be equally placed at risk.
This course is designed to teach participants how to effect an initial rescue arising from an incident and provide participants with an understanding of legislative and administrative requirements, entry and rescue equipment and atmospheric monitoring requirements.
Participants should note strong written and spoken English language proficiency is required to successfully complete studies. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms and producing reports.

- Recommend improvements to the rescue process
Prerequisites
- MSAPMOHS216A - Operate breathing apparatus
- MSAPMOHS217A - Gas test atmospheres
- MSAPMPHS220A - Provide initial first aid response
- MSAPMPER200B - Work in accordance with an issued permit
- MSAPMPER205B - confined space
- HLTFA301B - Apply first aid - recommended
Note: This competency does not cover the requirements to undertake comprehensive vertical, technical or confined space rescue.
