Course Outline
First aid training provides simple advice on how to manage emergency situations and explain first aid techniques and treatments for the most commonly encountered illnesses and injuries.
This course provides participants with enhanced first aid skills and knowledge to enable them to provide an advanced first aid response. It covers workers who provide response care in line with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
Course Subjects
- Infection control & hygiene in first aid procedures
- DRABCD and resuscitation review
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED) use, safety & maintenance
- Use of the resuscitators and oxygen delivery systems
- Administration of oxygen, maintenance of oxygen equipment
- Suction equipment and techniques
- Medications, pain management & analgesic drug administration
- Trauma management
- Basic anatomy (body systems)
- Clinical assessment and documentation
- Emotionally disturbed casualties
- Working with intoxicated patients
- Environmental emergencies
- Burns, poisoning
- Postincident management

Apply first aid (HLTFA301B) or equivalent obtained within the last 3 years

Observation and practical assessment, written project work, scenarios - problem solving
